A Word from the President
Happy Mardi Gras! Now that we’ve got our earliest possible Mardi Gras date out of the way, we can get back to what’s really
important: Procrastinating our repottings.
January’s meeting was certainly more interesting than our previous Silhouette Shows. Thanks to everyone who brought in a tree and
to those who put on impromptu demonstrations on pruning. It may be a while before we see another 8-foot monster cut down to
size. Photos of January’s meeting are on the site at www.gnobs.org.
Just a note on a couple of upcoming shows: The New Orleans Museum of Art will have their “Art In Bloom” show from Wednesday April
2nd thru Sunday April 6th. Coincidentally, and I must say, counterintuitively, the New Orleans Botanical Garden at City Park will
have their Spring Garden Show Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th; the very same weekend as “Art In Bloom” right next door.
As GNOBS participates in both events each year, we will be putting out an all points bulletin on member trees for these shows.
The February meeting will be the launch for the new GNOBS Internet discussion forums and “@gnobs.org” member email addresses. I
look forward to introducing these exciting features to our members. The discussion forums offer a way for GNOBS members to get
help from, show off to, and generally communicate with every other member between meetings. Also, look for me in the Bonsai
Basics corner before the meeting. I’ll be discussing bonsai soil.
