A Word from the President

Greetings.  Well, it’s been running hot and wet in my yard.  Pay close attention to your watering techniques. I’ve finally bought a moisture meter for my trees still in deep nursery pots.  A sprinkle of rain here and there does not penetrate as deep as you may think.

December 5-6, 2008 will be the 12th of 13 meetings that we’re having this year.  Dana Quattlebaum will be doing shimpaku junipers as a demonstration and as a workshop.  We still have 5 slots open for the workshop.  Contact Robert Reed at rareed@loyno.edu or his office 504-865-3737 or his home 225-673-9856 to reserve your spot.  The fee is $75 or $135 depending on the size of the tree.  According to Dana, the smaller trees would make better bonsai.  I’ve posted the pictures on the web site.

[NOTE: The workshop is closed to participants. All slots have been filled.]

July’s meeting features two videos.  The first is a presentation of the late John Naka of his collection.  The second is “Shaping Techniques” by Chase Rosade.  Both are excellent professional videos.

August 9th is our annual auction.  Viewing starts at 4pm.  The first gavel drops at 6pm.  Donations are strongly encouraged.
