Welcome to GNOBS

05-10-2010_16Hello To All My Bonsai Friends,

Welcome and thank you for visiting our web site. The Greater New Orleans Bonsai Society  was founded 40 years ago by noted bonsai artist Vaughn Banting.

Vaughn is no longer with us, he passed away several years ago, but I'm sure that he would be proud of the direction the society has taken.

We are now in our new home at the Marine Corps Hall in Kenner La. It has everything we could ask for, plenty of safe off street parking that is well lite, the hall itself is very large, clean, and easy to get to. We have bounced around a bit over the last year or so, but we have found our new home at the Marine Corps Hall.

This is the second time for me as President of GNOBS, and I give you my word that I will work hard along with the board of directors to make 2012 a great year for the society. We already have several workshops with nationally known bonsai masters set for this year. We have a new newsletter, The Bonsai Wire that has been well received. Every issue will feature articles by well known bonsai masters, helpful tips, web site and shopping info, bonsai book reviews, up coming events, a member profile, and so much more.

You can now follow GNOBS on Facebook. Check in often to see whats going on with your club. We are working out the details so the all paid members will able to post comments and pictures. We hope that with this new Facebook page we may attract a few new members.

And lets not forget our forum page on our own web site. This is a great way to get information about GNOBS.. Under the Gallery  section you can see what other members are doing eith their bonsai. The forum is the place to go in between meetings to keep current with the club. We even have a Dead Bonsai Society section to show and tell about your dearly departed bonsai ans what went wrong so the others will not make the same mistakes you made. It's all about learning and helping each other.

This year, in addition to our regular monthly programs, GNOBS has a full line up of bonsai activities for you and the general public to enjoy. The Spring and Fall Garden Show at City Park, Japan Day and Art in Bloom, both at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and two bonsai workshops at the Botanical Gardens are just some of the events around town that GNOBS will take part in.

2012 is looking to be a great year of bonsai, Please take advantage off everything that membership in GNOBS has to offer. Please try to be active, as this is your club. Without  the support of our members we will not be successful in our events and programs. Please email me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any questions.

See you at the programs !
